While iOS 17.3 has just arrived, Apple is also offering a new version… of iOS 15!
Like many iPhone owners, you have probably just performed the recent iOS 17.3 update. The latest version of Apple’s mobile OS notably allows you to benefit from new protection against theft, new features regarding Apple Music, etc. But Apple has also updated certain iPhones and iPads that are sometimes around ten years old.
A new update… for iOS 15!
Indeed, if many Android players (Google, Samsung, etc.) today offer software monitoring spread over several years, the trend has largely been started by Apple, whose new versions of iOS have always concerned relatively old iPhones. , but still very popular.
Very recently, Apple released a new update for iOS 15, the initial release of which dates back to September 2020. With the recent iOS/iPadOS 15.8.1 update, Apple has closed two security vulnerabilities.
These are two vulnerabilities affecting Webkit, which could allow a malicious user to disclose sensitive information and/or execute arbitrary code when a web page loads.
Many (old) iPhones and iPads affected
Obviously, Apple strongly recommends that all affected users install this new update as quickly as possible, requiring a 266 MB download.
As for the terminals affected by this iOS/iPadOS 15.8.1 update, we find the iPhone 6S (2015), but also the iPhone 7, without forgetting the first generation iPhone SE, launched in 2016. On the iPad side, this are the Air 2 (2014) and Mini 4 (2015) models which will be able to benefit from the update, without forgetting the 2019 iPod Touch.
Remember that the update in question does not add any new functionality, but corrects two security flaws recently highlighted by the Threat Analysis Group from Google, namely CVE_2023-42916 and CVE-2023-42917.
