Why Russia is increasing drone attacks on ports in southern Ukraine

Since the end of the Ukrainian grain agreement on July 17, 2023, Russian attacks targeting ports in southern Ukraine have followed one another. Russian drones loaded with explosives have damaged cereal infrastructure in Reni and Izmail, to the point that the international community has worried about global food security. “Vladimir Putin doesn’t care about global food security”responded the US State Department on August 17.

The world has authenticated amateur images and analyzed tracking data from grain transport boats, which provide a better understanding of why these ports, long spared by Moscow, have become prime targets.
