The Motorola Razr 2023 will arrive this year with a foldable screen that will probably turn heads… and shake up the competition?
As the rumors around the folding iPhone resurface, Motorola seems to want to kick the anthill when it comes to folding smartphones, and more specifically when it comes to screen size.
Folding smartphones, a growing market
Since 2019, folding smartphones have gradually managed to find a place in the hearts of many customers. If these small flexible devices today represent only 1.1% of the total terminal market, it is clear that year after year they manage to attract more and more people. After being a forerunner in the field, the Korean Samsung, currently market leader in folding folders, was quickly followed by a slew of other manufacturers, including Huawei, OPPO and Xiaomi.
In the race for folding smartphones, another actor also seems to want his share of the cake. After launching the latest iteration of its Razr range last October, Motorola will this year offer a new model with an external screen that is likely to be the envy of people.
Motorola Razr 2023: a screen that thinks big
A recent leak, discovered by Evan Blass and shared by the site GSM Arena, made it possible to discover in preview renderings of the next Motorola Razr. And the least we can say is that this one knows how to get noticed. Yes, the American manufacturer has decided to take a step forward in terms of external screen, since that of the Motorola Razr 2023 will cover almost the entire external surface.
On these images, we can notably notice that the photo sensors are housed on the slab. If it will undeniably have to wait many years before seeing edgeless screens appear on the market, it seems that it will not be the same for folding smartphones, as our colleagues from GSM Arena.
Anyway, with such a screen, the Motorola Razr would become (by far) the folding device with the largest folding screen on the market. What to come and shake up the competition? Maybe…

Marketed almost 200 euros more expensive than the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4, the Motorola Razr 2022 struggles to justify its high price. Admittedly, it is very powerful, but it does not really allow you to play the most demanding mobile games. It has a better photographic module than its South Korean competitor, but this sensor assembly lacks the versatility to be a real selling point.
Its screen offers an almost imperceptible fold, which is very pleasant. However, its panel lacks brightness and responsiveness; games requiring speed are impractical. Apart from being a folding smartphone, we do not find it of sufficient quality to justify its price vis-à-vis the Motorola edge 30 Ultra, sold 400 euros cheaper with a 200 megapixel sensor and a complete photographic module.
We are not convinced by this new iteration of the Razr, which is not a bad smartphone, but which does not offer real high-end services. Not to mention the fact that it comes with Android 12, and Lenovo’s mobile arm will only provide two OS upgrades.
