Why the Nothing Phone 3 could increase in price again this year

Preliminary rumors concerning the future Nothing Phone 3 suggest that the device would feature the new Snapdragon 8s Gen 3. Good news for the performance of the smartphone… which would unfortunately rhyme with a probable price increase.

Although its launch is not expected for several months, the Nothing Phone 3 is starting to get people talking. Replacing the very good Nothing Phone 2, marketed in November 2023, the device could in this case be equipped with a somewhat special Qualcomm processor, launched a few weeks ago: the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3.

At least that’s what the sometimes well-informed specialist site 91Mobiles puts forward, which says it gets the information from an industrial source with knowledge of Nothing’s projects. The Chinese manufacturer is therefore banking on a latest generation Qualcomm chip this year… which would, however, lead to a price increase. According to this same source, Nothing plans to increase the price of its future smartphone on the Indian market. A sign which could herald a generalized increase.

Towards a “moderate” price increase for the Nothing Phone 3?

In India, and again according to information from 91 Mobiles, the device would be sold between 40,000 and 45,000 Indian rupees depending on the configuration chosen – or between 446 and 502 euros excluding taxes. Of course, these prices should be taken with a grain of salt: it is quite possible that they will change between now and the launch of the smartphone.

As a reminder, the Nothing Phone 2 was priced at 679 euros including tax in France at its launch. The price increase, if confirmed, could therefore push the device past the 700 euro mark in France, and potentially bring it close to 800 euros. We nevertheless learn that Nothing would be “not interested» to invest in the high-end segment, which suggests a relatively modest price increase. In fact, the firm would rather seek to maintain an equipment/price ratio that is advantageous for the consumer, we read.

As a reminder, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 is, in any case, the latest high-end chip from Qualcomm to date. This is a slightly castrated version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 “classic», focused on AI. With it, we limit ourselves, for example, to a frequency of 3.0 GHz on the high-performance core, compared to 3.3 GHz on its big brother. This processor supports QHD+ panels at 144 Hz, and supports HDR10 / HDR10+ standards, which may possibly inform us (in part) about the screen of the future Nothing Phone 3.
