Prince Harry railed against the term “Megxit” during an online disinformation and harassment forum hosted by “Wired”.

Prince Harry once again openly criticized the British tabloids, at the origin, according to him, of the harassment suffered by his wife Meghan Markle, on social networks and in the international press. During a virtual forum, organized by the American magazine Wired, on which he had come to talk about disinformation and hate online, the Duke of Sussex returned to the term “Megxit”, which he loathes, and which he considers as misogynist.

“The term ‘Megxit’ is a misogynistic term coined by a troll and then relayed by media around the world. But originally, it all started with a troll, explained Prince Harry during his speech, where we felt the personal dimension of the themes around harassment, including his mental health and that of Meghan.

“Disinformation is an international humanitarian crisis”, says Prince Harry

A “troll” is a detractor who rages on social networks, especially on Twitter. More than 80 accounts have also been spotted by the authorities because they constantly targeted Meghan in their attacks. British tabloids picked up the term “Megxit” after first reading it on Twitter, and so the international press adopted it to describe the departure of the Sussexes from British royalty.

For Prince Harry, this cabal against Meghan is to be included in a larger problem: disinformation, a scourge that existed before the advent of social networks, but which has worsened since they existed. He firmly fights these drifts which are, according to him, at the origin of the death of his mother, Lady Diana.

“Disinformation is a international humanitarian crisis. (…) I know this problem all too well. I lost my mother because of (this) and I am determined not to lose (Meghan) under the same circumstances “, he told Wired.
