Announced a few days ago, Wild Hearts tackles a genre that Monster Hunter has reigned supreme over for many years: that of a gameplay centered on fights against giant monsters. Competition in this area can’t hurt, especially as variety and new ideas are always welcome. Of course, the game needs to go beyond mimicking the recipe, and adopting its own approach to the genre, as well as personal touches.
More natural monsters
As well as a story that takes place in a fantastical take on medieval Japan, Wild Hearts has taken quite a different direction from Monster Hunter in the design of the monsters, named Kemono, in this case. Rather than featuring wyverns and dragons, it instead feels like using real creatures, like a boar, wolf, rat, or eagle, before mixing them with different plants and elemental effects. It is interesting to see them as supernatural creatures, which influence their environment, and not as simple animals which one will cut up to make a new pair of boots.

What stands out the most from this trailer is the use of special devices during battles, which gives more room for creativity and improvisation. The cubes and the different devices allow you to put different tactics in place, in order to face the monsters. Rather than dodging, building a wall on which the monster will crash seems to be more effective, especially if you then climb said wall, in order to perform a devastating aerial attack. However, this is only the surface, and other tools, such as a kind of mini-helicopter or a giant hammer, can also be used. The use of these tools is not limited to combat, and as we can see in the trailer, they can also be used to climb walls, even to create a zip line to an otherwise inaccessible destination, at the top of a rocky peak. .
The release date of Wild Hearts is quite close, since the hunt starts on February 17, 2023 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series.
