Windows 10 21H2 becomes obsolete, an update is now crucial

It’s only a matter of time before the transition to Windows 11 is complete, and Microsoft is taking another step towards that goal today. Indeed, the latest Patch Tuesday makes Windows 10 version 21H2 obsolete, since the latter will no longer receive security updates from now on. If you are still on it, we strongly advise you to upgrade to a more recent update.

If your PC is still running on Windows 10, its time is running out. This formulation is certainly a bit dramatic, but it underlines a phenomenon that will not stop until Microsoft has achieved its objective: gradually leaving Windows 10 aside to devote itself fully to Windows 11 – and its successors. Currently, several versions of Windows 10 are already obsolete, as they no longer receive security updates to protect them against hacker attacks.

Yesterday, another version was added to this growing list: Windows 10 21H2. Indeed, it did not receive the Patch Tuesday of the month, making it vulnerable to threats. Here are all the versions of Windows 10 21H2 that no longer receive security updates as of today:

  • Windows 10 Home 21H2
  • Windows 10 Pro 21H2
  • Windows 10 Pro Education 21H2
  • Windows 10 Pro for Workstations, version 21H2

Microsoft therefore strongly urges affected users to upgrade to a more recent version of Windows in order to continue to benefit from optimal protection against threats. We also recall that all versions of Windows 10 20H2 (Home, Pro, Pro Education, Pro for Workstations and Enterprise) have also expired and are therefore just as exposed as Windows 10 21H2.

Fortunately, Windows 22H2 is now available for download for all users. It’s the perfect alternative if you don’t already have a PC eligible for Windows 11. “We use the same approach for Windows 11 to help you stay protected and productive. As always, you will have the option to choose a convenient time for your device to restart and complete the update”commented Microsoft.
