Microsoft also offers two email programs for Windows 11: Mail and Outlook. This is about to change soon. Mail users can now switch to the new Outlook in the Insider program as a test.

  • Microsoft could soon replace the clear e-mail program “Mail” with a new Outlook.
  • Windows Insider program members have the opportunity to try the new Outlook.
  • However, some functions are still missing, such as adding third-party email accounts.

The Mail app for Windows 11 is basically suitable for composing e-mails. Microsoft now seems to be replacing this standard program, which also runs under Windows 10, with a new Outlook.

That proves Twitter user @FireCubeStudios in a tweet. A screenshot shows that users with access to the Windows Insider program can try out a new variant of the well-known Outlook with the click of a button.

New Outlook with new features

The new Outlook is said to have some new features that the normal Windows Mail app and even the current Outlook do not include. According to Microsoft, in the new version you can not only pin e-mails to the top of your inbox, but also temporarily remove them so that they appear again later.

At the moment, the new email program only supports Microsoft 365 accounts and Outlook.com accounts. If you have your e-mail from a third-party provider, such as Gmail, Yahoo!, or GMX, you should wait a little longer. The Redmonders have not yet implemented these mailboxes.

This is how you install the new Outlook

If you still want to try the program, make sure that you can also get the beta through the Windows Insider program. If you’re using the latest version of Outlook, you can sign up for the Office Insider program. After that, all you have to do is:

  • 1. Go to: File -> Account Settings -> Set as Default
  • 2. Restarts Outlook.
  • 3. Make sure you’re signed in to the mail program and calendar with your Microsoft account.
  • 4. Restart the program and press the button at the top right.
  • 5. Download the file that is displayed to you on the Microsoft shop page.
