  • Microsoft is working on a new indicator for VPN connections.
  • It should provide information about your connection status.
  • However, the feature does not work in all cases.

Microsoft is continuously working on Windows 11 and is always adding new features. Now the Redmond company is testing an indicator in the taskbar that is supposed to give you information about your connection to a virtual private network (VPN). However, the tool still has some flaws.

As WindowsLatest reports, when you’re connected to a VPN service, a small shield appears over the internet connection icon. However, only with restrictions, because on the one hand there is no information about the use and speed with which you are using the VPN.

Limited function

Secondly, the feature only works with cable connections to the router. Connections to a VPN via WLAN are currently not supported at all. Third, the symbol only appears if you configure the VPN via Windows own network settings.

Providers who connect via their own programs, such as NordVPN, Surfshark or ProtonVPN, do not trigger the display. The function is currently still being tested in the Insider program. When it will be released is currently unknown.
