Whether on the cross-country ski run, the bobsleigh canal or on the alpine ski slope: In the coming weeks there will be some exciting competitions.

Ski jumping, alpine skiing or biathlon: winter sports competitions are currently attracting many viewers in front of the television. In particular, the long winter sports weekends on ARD and ZDF provide some consolation for the fact that, due to the corona pandemic, fans cannot cheer on the slopes or cross-country trails on site or become active in winter sports themselves. And there are still real highlights waiting in the calendar: If there are no stricter restrictions due to the pandemic by then, these major winter sports events will take place in the coming weeks.

Tobogganing and bobsleigh / skeleton: World Championships in Königssee and Altenberg

The 2021 Luge World Championships will be held at Königssee. Because of the corona pandemic, it will not be able to take place in Whistler, Canada, as originally planned. From January 29th to 31st, the 50th Luge World Championships in the Upper Bavarian district of Berchtesgadener Land are all about medals. For two-seater Tobias Wendl (33) / Tobias Arlt (33) and record world champion Felix Loch (31), the World Cup is a home game. The first starts on January 29th (sports show from 2:10 p.m.) with the men's sprint and the women's two-seater. From February 5 to 14, the World Cup in bobsleigh and skeleton will also be held in Altenberg, Saxony (February 5, two-man bobsleigh women, approx. 12:35 pm, ZDF).

Alpine skiing: World Cup in Cortina d'Ampezzo

The world championships in alpine skiing in Cortina d'Ampezzo are scheduled for February 7th to 21st, 2021. Five attempts were necessary before the World Ski Federation FIS awarded another World Cup to the noble town in the northern Italian region of Veneto. However, the FIS has refused the request of the Italian hosts to postpone the World Cup by one year into winter 2021/2022. Thirteen competitions are to take place, six each for men and women and one team event. It starts with the women's combination on February 8th (from 10:50 a.m. on the first), and the World Cup ends on February 21st with the men's slalom (from 9:45 a.m., ZDF).

Biathlon: World Cup in Pokljuka

A highlight awaits the biathletes in February. The World Cup will take place between February 10 and 21, 2021 in Pokljuka, Slovenia. The alpine plateau in northwestern Slovenia is located in the Triglav National Park in the Julian Alps. According to the provisional competition schedule, the World Cup starts on Wednesday (February 10th) with the mixed relay (around 2:45 p.m. on the first). After the competitions in the sprint, the pursuit, the individual and the single mixed relay, the exciting relay competitions for women and men will follow on the last weekend (February 20), and the next day both teams will have a mass start (from around 12:15 p.m. and 3 p.m. on ZDF).

Nordic World Ski Championships in Oberstdorf

There should be a total of 24 decisions. It starts with the cross-country sprint for women and men (February 25, around 4:10 p.m. on the first).
