Winter wonderland: The pictures of the week (week 51)

The pre-Christmas period is a particularly contemplative and atmospheric time. This is also reflected in the pictures of the day last week. They show impressive winter motifs from distant Nordic regions like the picture Ice and firewhich Joachim Kopatzki took in Iceland and then edited in Photoshop; or the picture of the day from Wednesday with the title Winter colors at the Arctic Circle by gallery photographer Innervik. As the title suggests, it was created in the far north of Scandinavia.

Other motifs are photographed right outside the front door, such as the picture Winter is here … by Daniel Stellwagen. He took advantage of a snow shower to photograph a gray heron in the drifting snow. He was helped by the fact that this bird stayed still for a long time and thus sharply separated itself from the snowflakes that were pulling the threads, even with a longer exposure time. Winter in Germany, however, often means less snow than dreary fog and rain. You will also find examples of this in the photo series.

We wish all readers and especially all photographers in our gallery a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year – stay healthy!

Joachim Kopatzki wrote about his photo montage: “The photo was taken in 2016 in Iceland on the Jökulsárlón glacier. I checked it out a while ago and thought a red sky makeover would do the photo good. I then implemented that, swapped the sky and edited the look. This is how the picture was created from a photo Ice and fire. “(Image: Joachim Kopatzki)
