With the support of pharmacies: German vaccination pass app CovPass starts

As early as next Monday (June 14), it should be possible to have the digital proof of a complete vaccination issued in many pharmacies, as the Federal Association of German Pharmacists’ Associations announced on Tuesday in Berlin.

On the Online portal mein-apothekenmanager.de From the deadline, you can find out where a pharmacy is nearby that already offers this service.

“The best way to bring proof of vaccination to people is through the pharmacy network close to home,” says Thomas Dittrich, Chairman of the German Pharmacists’ Association (DAV). “In the first few days, the number of pharmacies that make the offer will probably still be limited. However, we assume that the number of pharmacies will very quickly reach the four-digit range.”

According to the Ministry of Health, the document with the necessary QR code can not only be issued in pharmacies. Those who have yet to receive their second vaccination can also get their digital vaccination certificate in authorized vaccination centers, doctors’ offices and hospitals.

Vaccinated persons can then scan the QR code printed on the vaccination certificate with the vaccination pass app. According to the Federal Ministry of Health, the voluntary application called “CovPass“will be available for download by all interested parties in the app stores for smartphones before next Monday. Alternatively, the QR code can also be inserted into the Corona warning app embed. The necessary update of the Corona warning app should also be available in the next few days.

What do I get with the digital vaccination certificate?

The app can then be used as a kind of digital ID. Travelers then only need to show the forgery-proof QR code in the app to confirm that they are either fully vaccinated or tested negative. The digital certificate also offers the opportunity to prove vaccination protection in restaurants, shops or at sporting and cultural events.

Important: The QR code can only be displayed after 14 days have passed after the last vaccination. When checked, the QR code only shows the most necessary information, such as vaccination status, name and date of birth. In addition to the app, a valid identification document, such as an identity card, is also required.

Will the digital vaccination certificate be compulsory?

No. “The digital vaccination certificate is only a voluntary and additional offer,” says a current information from the Federal Ministry of Health. Anyone who does not have a digital vaccination certificate can still prove a vaccination using the yellow vaccination card.
