With Togg, Turkey makes the automobile a vector of patriotism

At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, held from January 9 to 12 in Nevada, the Togg stand had nothing to envy of that of Mercedes, nearby. Adorned in turquoise, the space occupied by the young manufacturer covered an area much larger than that of the German brand. Togg, short for “Turkish automobile group”, participated for the third year in a row in this event dedicated to tech.

There is no risk of seeing the coat of arms (two opposing arrows symbolizing the synthesis between East and West) at the Paris, Munich or Geneva motor shows. Let it be said, Togg does not produce electric cars, but smart devicesin other words, “smart devices”. “We started from a blank sheet, and we do not compare ourselves to the rest of automobile production,” warns Gürcan Karakas, the general director of Togg, created in 2018.

On the stand, the star was the T10F, the second model in the range after the T10X, an SUV launched in 2023. Designed by the Italian Pininfarina, with the aim of pleasing as many people as possible, the new “smart device” takes the shape of a so-called sedan “fastback”, with a slightly receding roofline to energize the rear. Inside the Togg, the dashboard is invaded by a panoramic screen 50 centimeters long. When you take a seat behind the wheel, the driver’s pulse and assessment of his stress level are displayed on the screen.

From 47,000 to 60,000 euros

The models in the range are priced between 47,000 and 60,000 euros depending on the version, a high price, but far from exceptional for an electric model with market standards. The range of the T10F can reach, according to the manufacturer, up to 600 kilometers with the largest battery, which represents a fair average. T10F body color options “are inspired by and named after the natural beauty of Turkey”. Because Togg is not just a technological signature. It is also a patriotic manifesto.

Despite a price which makes it very unaffordable in its own country, otherwise largely lacking in a network of charging stations, the firm presents itself as a standard bearer. “Turkey has manufactured cars for thirteen different brands, including Toyota, Renault, Fiat and Ford. Togg demonstrates that she can produce a model on her own and that makes people proud,” insists Gürcan Karakas, who previously headed the Turkish division of the equipment manufacturer Bosch.
