World of Warcraft was at the heart of BlizzCon with a veritable anthology of ambitious announcements for the iconic MMO.

The legendary Chris Metzen, once again creative director of the franchise after a few years of absence, returned to the stage of Blizzard’s more or less annual event to present to us the vast plans hatched for World of Warcraft. As such, no less than three extensions have been introduced, among other strong announcements.

Azeroth at the heart of BlizzCon

If there are many constants in Azeroth, it is that two years always separate the release of a new expansion, and that it is announced at BlizzCon. History repeats itself here, while Dragonflight will blow out its two candles in 2024. After flying with the dragons, World of Warcraft intends to dive into the heart of its history with what was announced as the Worldsoul Saga.

This new chapter in the mythology of World of Warcraft will cover not one, but three extensions, the first being called War Within. Expected in 2024, this was treated to a trailer of which Blizzard has the secret, setting up the plot and the adventures to come for the heroes of Azeroth.

We find Thrall and Anduin there, looking back on past trials and the fact that the heart of the planet seems to be experiencing some instabilities. It turns out that time is running out before it explodes, and with it all the people of Azeroth.

A new stone in the building

In addition to the announcement trailer, we were able to learn more about what will await players in War Within. Among the new features to come, we will have new areas to explore and a new playable race that is very… down-to-earth.

New mechanics will naturally be on the menu. Among the most notable in the video above, we have the heroic talents, aimed at offering new options for each class, or the possibility of forming a band of mercenaries. Flying mounts revamped in Dragonflight will also make their return. Finally, the endgame will be the scene of classic raid dungeons, the pinnacles of each expansion. World of Warcraft and where the lore will fully develop.

Extensions in the future as in the past

Speaking of lore, we mentioned above a large and new chapter which is being written in the forges of Blizzard for World of Warcraft. There Worldsoul Sagawhich places Azeroth at the heart of the plot, will indeed require two other expansions to be complete.

As such, we were treated to the names of the next upcoming expansions: Midnight And The Last Titan. All that Chris Metzen saw fit to tell us about them is that the second expansion will focus on Quel’Thalas, the nation of Blood Elves, and that the third will bring back the Titans, these cosmic beings to the immeasurable powers.

The players and players of World of Warcraft therefore still have many years of content to get their teeth into, starting with War Withinexpected in 2024. Fans of Classic are however far from having been neglected, since the extension Cataclysm will be (re)deployed during the first half of 2024.

Until then, World of Warcraft Classic A new season called Discovery will open in November, which will offer players skills allowing them to radically change the gameplay of each class. It will thus be possible to play a tank warlock or even a healing mage, among other changes aimed at spicing up the original experience of this iconic MMO, celebrating 20 years of good and loyal service next year.
