Xbox: Long-awaited horror shooter has to cope with months of delay

In 2022, too, gamers will have to cope with release postponements of highly anticipated games. Now it has hit an open-world horror sequel that Xbox fans in particular have been looking forward to for a long time.

Stalker 2: Heart of Chernobyl was supposed to be released on April 28, 2022 and allow players to make the chilling return to the infamous nuclear-plagued territory. But instead of jumping into the fight for survival against numerous mutant monsters in April, gamers now have to wait a whopping seven months longer because developer GSC Game World has officially postponed the project.

Stalker 2: Heart of Chernobyl keeps fans waiting

In a post on Twitter, the developers of Stalker 2 turned to their fans and announced the postponement of the release. The Horror game is now scheduled to be released on December 8, 2022. As a reason for the seven-month waiting period, they stated that the game still needs to be extensively tested and polished to reflect the studio’s original vision.

Many gamers are likely to be disappointed after the announcement in view of unfinished game disasters from the recent past but can probably arrange with the waiting time as long as the horror open world of Stalker 2 can impress when it is released. It was not explained whether the longer development time also had something to do with the NFT integration that was announced recently and withdrawn after a shitstorm.

Horror shooter has been simmering in the development process for a long time

While seven months is no small feat, it still seems almost a footnote compared to Stalker 2’s lengthy development history to date – after all, the game was first announced in 2010, only to be discontinued in 2012. Six years later, the project was officially resumed and given a 2021 release date. Hopefully this roller coaster ride will finally come to an end in December 2022. The game is set to be a limited-time exclusive to Xbox consoles and will be available as a day-one release on Xbox Game Pass.
