The market for ultra short-throw projectors is exploding in Asia, which makes it possible to obtain new products. Xgimi has just announced its first 4K Laser TV.

Xgimi, maybe you don’t know this builder. This Chinese firm has become known for the first picoprojectors under Android TV. It has now taken it to the next level as it just presented an ultra short throw 4K laser projector at CES 2022.
A boiling market
As a reminder, ultra short-throw projectors are multiplying, there are some at Samsung, Xiaomi, BenQ, ViewSonic, Hisense … The first interest, you will understand, is linked to its projection ratio which is in this case generally less than 0.3. The throw ratio is the ratio of the image size to the projector-screen distance. It allows you to precisely define the position of the video projector according to the desired image size (and vice versa).
This type of projector has other interests, such as ease of installation. Just place it on a cabinet near the wall where you want to project the image. The installation costs are therefore lower compared to a conventional video projector. But there are also benefits for image quality and user experience, such as having better light output. Indeed, since the video projector is located closer to the screen, there is less loss of light.

Aura: up to 150 inches
The newly introduced Xgimi Aura is a new solution from the projector manufacturer that is capable of delivering an image up to 150 inches on a screen or wall, with which it is only spaced a few inches apart. It uses a DLP / DMD matrix but the 4K definition is obtained from Full HD matrices (1920 x 1080 pixels) via a wobulation process. In addition, it does not require any professional installation, you just need to put the device on a piece of furniture and you can start using it.

The most notable features of this projector are a 2400 lumen laser light source, its compatibility with HDR10 and HLG and Android TV 10, thanks to which you can access all the useful apps. It is also Full HD 3D compatible.

Plus, it’s an “all-in-one” solution and it comes with four Harman Kardon 15W speakers (two subwoofers and two tweeters), but no DTS or Dolby Atmos. For around 2,500 euros, it is an alternative to conventional televisions which is already on the market.
