Xiaomi 13, 13 Pro and 13 Lite in comparison: This is how the cell phones differ

Almost two months after the market launch in China, Xiaomi has now also presented the Xiaomi 13 series in this country. Unlike in the Middle Kingdom, it does not consist of two but three devices: the Xiaomi 13, the 13 Pro and the Xiaomi 13 Lite, rumor has it that an Ultra version will follow. But probably only in the course of the second half of the year.

But in which aspects do the Xiaomi 13, 13 Pro and 13 Lite differ from each other? We dare a first comparison.

display and size

The Pro version (162.9 x 74.6 x 8.38 mm) is a good bit larger than the normal version of the Xiaomi 13 (152.8 x 71.5 x 7.98 mm) and the display is accordingly greater. The Xiaomi 13 Lite (159.2 x 72.7 x 7.2 mm) is between the other two models in terms of size.

The Xiaomi 13 Pro has a 6.73-inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 3,200 x 1,440 pixels and a refresh rate of 120 Hertz. The Xiaomi 13 also has an AMOLED display with 120 Hertz, the size is 6.36 inches and the resolution is 2,400 x 1,080 pixels. The Lite version has a 6.55-inch display and AMOLED panels are also installed here. The resolution is identical to that of the Xiaomi 13.

In addition to the aspects mentioned, the display of the Xiaomi 13 Pro is also a curved display. This means that the edges are rounded, which makes the design look more aesthetic and also makes the image appear larger. In addition, images can be displayed with a minimum of 1 Hertz, which extends the battery life. The screens of the other models do not offer such a fine gradation.

Furthermore, the screens of the Xiaomi 13 and 13 Pro shine brighter than that of the Lite model. This reaches a maximum of 1,000 nits, with the other two models it is 1,900 nits.

There are also differences in processing. While the Xiaomi 13 and 13 Pro are protected against dust and water according to IP68, the Xiaomi 13 Lite lacks a corresponding certification. In addition, the case of the 13 Pro is made of ceramic and the display is protected with Gorilla Glass Victus. The other two models use glass both at the front and at the back. The display glass is Corning Gorilla Glass 5.

The Xiaomi 13 Pro is available in two colors (black and white). The Xiaomi 13 comes in black, white and green, the Lite model in blue, pink and black.

Performance

In terms of performance, the Xiaomi 13 and 13 Pro hardly differ from each other. Both feature Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and can be purchased with 8 or 12 gigabytes of RAM. Due to the smaller display, the normal Xiaomi 13 is probably even faster than the Pro version in the long run. The Lite smartphone, on the other hand, has to be satisfied with a Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chipset. However, you can also choose between 8 and 12 gigabytes of RAM here.

A notice: Only the Pro model with 12 GB RAM will be available in Germany, but other variants could find their way onto the German market as gray imports.

The graphics unit is also identical in the two better smartphones. Both devices are powered by the Adreno 740 graphics unit. You should be able to play all current 3D games and do graphics-intensive tasks, such as video editing, at high speed over the next few years. The Xiaomi 13 Lite still has to rely on an Adreno 662 GPU, which should also be sufficient for most games.

In the race for the better camera, however, the Pro model is clearly ahead. The Lite Edition has a triple camera setup consisting of a 50-megapixel main camera, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens and a 2-megapixel macro camera. The Xiaomi 13, on the other hand, features Sony’s IMX800 sensor, which is supported by a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens and a 10-megapixel telephoto lens. This sounds solid on paper, although tests will only show how good the pictures really are.

The Xiaomi 13 Pro is equipped with the Sony IMX989 sensor, which has already been used in the Xiaomi 12S Ultra. In addition, the additional lenses also have a resolution of 50 megapixels, which is a huge upgrade compared to the other versions. The front camera, on the other hand, is identical and snaps selfies with 32 megapixels. By the way, only the cameras of the Xiaomi 13 and 13 Pro have Leica branding.

battery and charge

At 4,820 mAh, the battery of the Xiaomi 13 Pro is slightly larger than that of the Xiaomi 13 and Xiaomi 13 Lite, which can store up to 4,500 mAh. The cheaper versions can be charged with 67 watts via cable and 50 watts via the Qi standard (Xiaomi 13 only). The Pro model, on the other hand, is charged with up to 120 watts via cable and can therefore complete a charging process within 45 minutes.

Other differences

• The Xiaomi 13 and 13 Pro already support WiFi 7.
• The Xiaomi 13 and 13 offer stereo speakers while the Lite model does not.
• The Xiaomi 13 Lite is still delivered with Android 12, the other models with Android 13.
• The manufacturer promises four Android updates and five years of security patches for the Xiaomi 13 and 13 Pro. There is no specific information for the Lite model.

Prices

The Xiaomi 13 costs 999.90 euros in Germany with 256 gigabytes of memory, the Pro model 1,299.90 euros. Xiaomi offers the Lite version for 499.90 euros with 128 gigabytes of storage. Pre-orders for the Xiaomi 13 are now open.

Conclusion

All models are top smartphones for a fair price. The Pro model is superior in some aspects and we think the extra cost is reasonable. Even if the Xiaomi 13 and 13 Pro are on par in terms of performance, battery life and design, the advantages of the Pro version are still great. If you are willing to pay around 300 euros more, the investment is definitely worth it. The Lite, on the other hand, is a cheap alternative that cannot keep up with the other versions in terms of hardware.
