This new smartphone looks a lot like the Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro, but incorporates a new, more powerful processor… hence its name.

Impossible to stop Xiaomi, which connects the presentations of smartphones. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 range consisted of four references (Redmi Note 12, Redmi Note 12 Pro, Redmi Note 12 Pro+ and Redmi Note 12 Pro Discovery), but that was obviously not enough. Here is the fifth member of the family, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro Speed Edition.

A design almost identical to the Redmi Note 12 Pro

This new smartphone is not really one, since the Chinese manufacturer more or less takes over the design of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro, with however some adjustments. The photo block has been slightly redesigned and the Redmi logo is now placed at the top of the phone, near the lenses, rather than at the bottom like on the other models in the range. It also lost 6 g on the scale compared to the previous model. Three colors, black, green and blue, are offered by the brand.

The device still has a 6.67-inch Full HD OLED screen, 120 Hz refresh rate, as well as a 5,000 mAh battery with 67 W fast charge. The smartphone is also 5G compatible.

A more powerful processor and a larger photo sensor as the only new features

Now let’s move on to what’s new. The first is obviously at the processor level. Xiaomi swaps here the Dimensity 1080 processor for a Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G SoC which will offer better performance in use.

The other improvement of this “Speed Edition” is the replacement of the main photo sensor. The 50-megapixel Sony IMX766 is replaced here by a 108-megapixel Samsung Isocell HM2 photo sensor. The sensor size is slightly larger, at 1/1.52 inch, compared to 1/1.56 for the Sony sensor. The other two sensors are identical to the Redmi Note 12 Pro, namely a 2-megapixel telephoto lens and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide angle.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro Speed Edition will be available in three configurations, with respectively 6, 8 and 12 GB of RAM, and 128 and 256 GB of storage.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro Speed Edition range is only available in China at the moment from 1,699 yuan (around 230 euros) for the basic version with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. The best equipped model, with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage, is charged 1,999 yuan (270 euros). We will have to wait a little longer to find out if a launch in Europe is planned by the brand.
