Xiaomi Mix Fold 2: handling the most attractive folding smartphone on the market

Might as well warn you right away: Xiaomi has no intention of marketing it in Europe. Exclusive to the Asian market, the Mix Fold 2 will therefore perhaps deprive itself of some success in our countries. And it’s quite frustrating as this smartphone is successful. During its presentation, Xiaomi emphasized its finesse, and this is indeed what strikes you when you see it for the first time. The Mix Fold 2 is extremely thin and, above all, very light for a folding smartphone which, open, displays a surface of 8.02 inches. It’s a large smartphone, but the grip is pleasant and the comfort of use is there. Next to it, a Galaxy Z Fold 4 looks almost small. The 11.4 mm thickness when closed is impressive, as is the gap between the two parts of the slab which is almost non-existent.

The golden finish passed through our hands is of the most beautiful effect, reinforcing the necessarily premium aspect of the device. On the back, the integration of the photo island is rather well thought out, since it occupies the width of the phone. In fact, it does not add too much to the general thickness; a good point. The external screen is large (it measures 6.5 inches), but again occupies the entire front surface, unlike that of the Samsung model. As it is, the Mix Fold 2 can be used without having to open it, like Huawei’s Mate XS 2.
As for the hinge, it is very pleasant to handle. It holds the smartphone very well, without being too resistant. And above all, it does not mark the screen too much – even if the light conditions played rather in its favor. We have here perhaps the least visible hinge of the current market.

The results of this quick start are so positive that we can only regret that the Mix Fold 2 will not be available in Europe. However, questions remain unanswered, such as autonomy. With such finesse, it’s hard to imagine more than a full day of use – just look at the results we got with Huawei’s model. Ultimately, another product that leaves you dreaming and which will require patience before seeing a version arrive that will tease Samsung’s hegemony in Europe.
