Like many others before them, the TW-E5B insist above all on the quality of the sound reproduction that they would be able to offer. Yamaha justifies it, in the first place, by invoking once again its fabulous “True Sound” concept linked to its heritage as a manufacturer of audio and musical products, its proximity to artists, and the know-how placed in the acoustic design of its new headphones. The result would be a rendering “remarkably dynamic, balanced and spacious”… and so on.
On a more concrete aspect, the manufacturer is relatively loquacious: Yamaha would thus have “refined the control of the air inside the headphones”, certainly compared to the previous iteration TW-E3B, would have thought the internal structure of its headphones to further limit unwanted resonances (thus distortion) and placed a vent at the back of the earcups to optimize the airflow to inside the headphones for better bass response and more. It remains to be seen what the result actually looks like… A single 7mm dynamic speaker (compared to 6 on the model mentioned above) is responsible for sound reproduction. On the “electronics” side, the manufacturer has also placed its “Listening Care” technology in its TW-E5Bs, which takes the form of automatic equalization which would allow the frequency balance to be maintained at all listening levels. A customizable equalizer is also offered in the Yamaha mobile application.
Judging by the visuals, the TW-E5B are not the most compact and discreet earphones out there, but they have the merit of opting for an original design, which does not lack elegance. Yamaha seeks to reassure about the comfort experience, indicating that the part in contact with the user’s ear adopts a shape capable of adapting to all morphologies, even the smallest. The insertion of the in-ear tips would be done in a comfortable way, four pairs of tips of different sizes are also provided. As far as features are concerned, the TW-E5Bs don’t stretch too far: Bluetooth 5.2 connection with support for SBC/AAC/atpX codecs, solo/mono use, ambient noise listening mode, mobile companion app and low latency mode for gaming.
Yamaha’s TW-E5B will hit the market in April 2022, priced at €159, and will be available in four different colors: white, blue, green or brown.
