The US actor Yaphet Kotto is dead. The former James Bond villain died in the Philippines at the age of 81.

The US actor Yaphet Kotto died on Monday in the Philippines at the age of 81. His wife announced this via Facebook. She was "sad and still shocked" and had many more plans with her husband. Among other things, he had an offer to shoot with Tom Cruise (58). Kotto was a "good man, a good father, a good husband and a decent person".

Kotto became internationally known in 1973 when he acted the villain in Roger Moore's first appearance as James Bond in "Live and Let Die". The native New Yorker also played in numerous other cinema productions, for example in cult films such as "Alien" or "The Running Man" with Arnold Schwarzenegger (73). In the USA he was also known for his leading role in the successful 1990s crime series "Homicide".

Kotto was nominated four times for the Image Award for Best Actor in a Series. The actor leaves a total of five children from two previous marriages. He was married to his current wife, Tessie Sinahon, since 1998.
