(sda) The Young Boys are back in action just before the winter transfer window closes. The Swiss champions are loaning Edimilson Fernandes from Mainz until the end of the season. In the Bundesliga, where Fernandes was recently loaned to Arminia Bielefeld, the 25-year-old has only been used sporadically. He has played eight games this season, most recently at the end of November.

The polyvalent midfielder, who has played 22 times for the Swiss national team and can also be used in central defence, should provide relief in the Bernese squad after the departures and injury-related absences of several regular players.

Automobile: Again sprint races in Formula 1

(sda) Formula 1 will also hold three sprint races in the upcoming season, each on the Saturday of the Grand Prix weekends in Imola, Spielberg and São Paulo. Instead of sprint qualifying, the races over 100 kilometers are now called sprints. In addition, there will no longer only be points for the first three drivers (3-2-1), but for the top 8 – descending from eight to one point.

It was also decided that pole position would officially go to the fastest driver from Friday’s qualifying session. Previously, the driver who had started from pole position on Sunday had been credited with the pole position.

Qualifying on Friday forms the basis for the starting grid for the sprint on Saturday. His classification then forms the final starting grid for the Grand Prix on Sunday.

Football: Salernitana gets a point back

(sda) The Court of Appeal of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) has overturned the point deduction against Salernitana. The last of Serie A was penalized because he did not travel to Udine for the championship game on December 21 due to numerous corona cases in the squad. Salernitana was banned from traveling by the health authorities.

However, the league refused to postpone the match because veteran Franck Ribéry’s club still had enough players. A sports judge then rejected an appeal from Salernitana, which meant that the game was scored 0:3. In addition, Salernitana received a point deduction for not showing up. The appellate court has now assessed the case differently. The sanctions are no longer valid, the game should be rescheduled.
