Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2: What’s next for the Paramount+ series?

YELLOWSTONE

“Yellowstone” stands in front of a pile of broken glass. Lead actor Kevin Costner is leaving the Paramount+ series in the middle of Season 5, leaving it unfinished. What’s next for the western?

  • “Yellowstone” will have to do without leading actor Kevin Costner in the future.
  • The actor is leaving the Paramount series before Season 5 is fully wrapped.
  • But that doesn’t have to mean the end for the Duttons on their ranch. There is already a replacement.

Now it’s official: Kevin Costner is leaving “Yellowstone”. After months of speculation about Costner’s departure, the end of the series has now been confirmed. But what does this mean for the Paramount+ series? Can the ranch continue without John Dutton and what about the future of “Yellowstone” and the spin-offs?

Even though Costner has left “Yellowstone,” the show doesn’t have to end. The main series and the two spin-offs “1883” and “1923” are very popular.

It is not yet known how John Dutton will leave the series. However, there are indications that Costner’s character will die the classic serial death and disappear from the world of “Yellowstone” forever. Whether he will be seen at all in the second half of the 5th season is also still open.

Perhaps John Dutton will die a lonely death that we will not witness. But there is already a solution to not having to leave the ranch. While there were still disputes with Kevin Costner, the series makers were looking for a new hero to be seen in a spin-off. An undisclosed spin-off starring Matthew McConaughey is on the way.

The Duttons could also survive in this and continue to farm their ranch. The best imaginable replacement for Costner’s John Dutton in “Yellowstone” would be his ranch hand and son-in-law, Rip Wheeler. The character has undergone a remarkable transformation in the five seasons so far and loves the family ranch at least as much as the Dutton father.

Rip started out as a ruthless Yellowstone ranch hand in season one and quickly became a fan favorite. He began various murders in the name of his surrogate father, John, and yet he also showed plenty of tenderness when dealing with his great love, Beth. Rip’s nurturing goes so far as to take in tragic teenager Carter and raise him with his wife.

That’s why Rip Wheeler is the perfect choice for the Yellowstone ranch

Rip first came to Yellowstone Ranch as a teenager after murdering his father in self-defense. This previously killed his brother and his mother, which is why Rip was completely alone. John Dutton took the boy to his farm and made him his ranch hand.

Rip bonded with the Dutton family and quickly developed a need to protect the ranch and its residents. Come what may. On behalf of his employer John, he therefore began to get involved in dirty business. Both men live the classic cowboy life that, to their regret, is slowly dying out.

Even though Rip isn’t John’s biological son, he often makes it clear that he does see him as one. Aside from Rip, only Lee Dutton shared John’s passion for the ranch.

However, after the death of his eldest son, John has no one but Rip who would want to run his farm like himself. His son Kayce and daughter Beth would not want to be in charge of the ranch, and adoptive son Jamie would be even more unsuitable and unwilling than his siblings.

But maybe the prophecy the family was warned about in “1883” will come true? This states that the Duttons will lose the ranch after seven generations. Are we going to get that sooner? We’ll probably find out in the next few weeks.
