Ymen-Saudi coalition denies hitting Saada prison

CAIRO, Jan 22 (Reuters) – The Saudi-led coalition intervening militarily in Yemen against the Iran-backed Houthis has denied reports it carried out an airstrike on a Saada prison in the north of the country, the official Saudi news agency SPA reported on Saturday.

A spokesman for the coalition, quoted by SPA, said the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Yemen and the Red Cross would be informed by the coalition “of facts and details”.

According to the NGO Save the Children, more than sixty people including children were killed Friday in air raids by the Saudi coalition against several Yemeni towns.

A witness told Reuters on Friday that an airstrike hit a prison in Saada province, killing several people including African migrants.

Al Massirah TV channel, controlled by the Shia Houthi movement, reported dozens of people killed or injured in the attack. (Report Ahmad Elhamy; French version Jean Terzian)
