Emmaüs is calling for donations for electronic devices. If companies are mainly invited to mobilize, the public can also deliver products that are sleeping in the cupboards.
It is a call which is first addressed to companies, but which can also be extended to individuals. If you have electronic devices that you no longer have any use for, such as laptops or smartphones, you can of course resell them, send them for recycling… or even donate them to an association, such as Emmaüs.
A target of 10,000 devices to recover
The movement has precisely launched a call in this direction on November 8, 2022, as noted by the site Les Numériques. The objective of the operation is to manage to collect 10,000 devices throughout the territory, to recondition them and offer them at a solidarity price: the price for equipping oneself drops on average by 80% for a PC and by 66% for a smartphone, according to Emmaüs.
Emmaüs’ action is carried out with LaCollecte, which manages the free recovery of equipment from organisations, the restoration and erasure of data, with traceability and certificates. For companies that would hesitate to take the plunge, the organization emphasizes that there is also a more down-to-earth interest: the donation is also recoverable for tax purposes.
According to the Ecological Transition Agency, 54 to 110 million smartphones are sleeping in cupboards, according to an estimate from April 2021. The range goes from simple to double, a sign of the difficulty of having a clear view of the situation. . Nevertheless, it can be assumed that many devices are still in working order, even if they are “old”.
This type of collection is nothing new for Emmaus. However, this year’s operation takes on particular importance in a context of price inflation, which primarily affects the most vulnerable people. In fact, access to certain materials is becoming even more difficult than in the past and the choices become constrained when it comes to choosing between a telephone and food.
If organizations are solicited here – Les Numériques recalls, citing a study conducted by BNP Paribas in 2020, that 39% of companies surveyed store unused equipment – the public can also get rid of certain products. To find the donation centers near you, go to the association’s website.
