A step that we imagined essential to claim an impeccable manicure … and yet! According to dermatologist Corey L. Hartman, this would be a big mistake.
Cutting your cuticles: good or bad idea? Dr Corey L. Hartman was very clear in an interview with PopSugar. It would be a very bad habit, not without danger for our health! He also wished to recall that the function of the nail cuticle “is to protect the birth of the nail from bacterial and fungal infections”. Cutting your cuticles, whether using a small pair of scissors or even a cuticle cutter, would come back to remove this protection of the nail and thus allow dirt and bacteria to penetrate more easily.
Cut or push back your cuticles?
But then can we (at least) push back our cuticles? This would actually be the best thing to do in the event that we do not want to keep our cuticles on the nail and glued to the nail base for perfect protection. However, Dr Corey L. Hartman reminds us: the ideal is to do not touch at all to his cuticles!
The dermatologist advises, rather than cutting or pushing them back, to apply an oil or a cream specially designed to nourish the cuticles. Every evening, before going to bed, remember to massage your fingers with a treatment that will promote healthy nail growth. Over the days, your cuticles and nails will be more beautiful.
