Young women graduates from the Grandes Ecoles are still paid less than men

The graduates of the class of 2022 know “a good professional integration” grace “to an economic and social situation favorable to recruitment”. Thus, the net employment rate of 2022 graduates stands at 90.5% (+0.7%), even exceeding the rate preceding the health crisis. This is revealed by the results of the “insertion” survey presented on Wednesday 14 June. This annual survey of the Conference of Grandes Ecoles (CGE) analyzes and compares the professional integration of graduates of the grandes écoles six months after the end of their course. This year, graduates from 2022 and the two previous years, from 194 institutions, participated. Between an increasing net employment rate and rising wages, the results of the survey are positive with a few exceptions.

Thus, the wage gap between women and men persists this year among graduates. “Unfortunately, women in almost all sectors, especially business school graduates, are paid less than men when they leave”, notes Nicolas Glady, vice-president of the CGE and director of Télécom Paris. Among the 2022 graduates, the gross annual salary of women (excluding bonus) is on average 5.5% lower than that of men, down 0.5% in one year.

This gap even goes as far as 7.3% among managers, particularly in the banking and insurance sector. In addition to wage disparities, there are disparities in hiring. Women thus have a net employment rate lower than that of men (3.2%) and have more difficulty obtaining a permanent contract than their male counterparts. They also less often occupy managerial positions.

In addition to a high integration rate, “the conditions of employment are very good”, supports the survey, both in terms of the quality of the job and its remuneration. Thus, the hiring rate on permanent contracts is one of the highest in recent years. Within this promotion, they are 85.5% to have declared to have been hired under this status, an increase of 3.7 points compared to the year 2022 – itself an increase of 4.7 points compared to the former. “It’s a very good sign, it shows that jobs are sustainable”welcomes Nicolas Glady.

Fewer and fewer young graduates are moving abroad

A result that must still be weighted since it remains unequal depending on the course of study. According to the survey, eight out of ten graduates from management and engineering schools are hired on permanent contracts, compared to six out of ten for graduates from other schools. Added to this is a large number of executives among these young graduates (87.4%). On the salary side, the figures are at their highest. A progression observed for graduates of all types of school. Graduates of 2022 thus declare receiving an average gross annual salary (excluding bonuses) of 38,184 euros, i.e. a significant increase of 4.5% in one year. Added to this is the fact that hiring is always faster. 95.8% of respondents say it took less than four months to land their first job and, for 68.6% of them, the contract was even signed before leaving school. A record figure for the decade.
