The MIG Switch is a flash card capable of running all Switch games such as Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom For example. It is the direct heir of the R4 and M3 cartridges which wreaked havoc on Nintendo DS, and a potential risk for users. The flashcard could thus have a formidable effect on the second-hand market.

The Nintendo Switch, the French’s favorite console, is undoubtedly reaching the end of its life, with rumors of a new console becoming more and more insistent. It is well known that a console that reaches the end of what it had to give also makes itself much easier to pirate, and attempts of this type have been numerous over the years. But today, with the arrival of the MIG Switch, this flash card capable of running almost all possible games without having to modify the console. However, the risks of seeing your Nintendo account erased from the face of the planet by the Japanese giant are not minimal, quite the contrary.

A flash card capable of running virtually any game

Anyone interested in ways to hack their Nintendo DS necessarily remembers the R4 or M3 cartridges: these flashcards had the main effect of installing games on a memory card and then launching them on their console. Until now, the Switch had been rather spared from such a practice, but everything comes in time to those who wait: the MIG Switch is preparing to take up the torch among all fans of such a practice. The Russian flashcard claims to be compatible with all Nintendo Switch models. A YouTuber named Alien Retro Gaming has already been able to test the tool, on an unmodified console running version 17.0.1 of the software, connected to the internet. And it worked perfectly.

So, how does the MIG Switch work: the idea is simple: insert a Micro SD card full of games that you copied in the Russian flashcard, and play! The obvious problem is that many players will obviously use this method to install games they don’t own, which is completely illegal. And the potential repercussions don’t stop there…

The second-hand market threatened?

This flash card allows you to launch games in XCI format. It will also be possible, thanks to another accessory called MIG Dumper, to create a digital copy of the cartridge (this involves in particular the game certificate, the UID and also the cartridge identification number). And this is where the real problem arises. It then becomes possible to create a digital copy of your cartridge, and then resell it in stores: there, an innocent player obtains your game. If he plays this game while a digital copy is already in circulation, Nintendo could ban the account of the poor player who didn’t ask for anything. Ultimately, if the tool were to become more widely available, it could therefore have a large-scale impact on the second-hand market.
