Every year, over 600,000 children and young people from all parts of the country take part in Y + S courses or camps, tens of thousands of young people are trained to be mostly volunteer leaders or even experts, as stated in a communication from the Federal Office for sport (BASPO) from Tuesday is called.
The cantons are organizing one to three-day “trial camps” this year with the aim of enabling children and young people between the ages of 5 and 20 to get to know the mood of the camp and to play sports.
National youth sports camp in Ticino
In the Centro Sportivo Tenero (CST), the youth sports center of Baspo in Ticino, 730 young people between the ages of 12 and 16 from all cantons will meet from July 31 to August 6 for the national youth sports camp. In addition to sporting activities under the direction of students from the Swiss Federal University of Sport Magglingen, workshops on topics such as integration and prevention take place.
Cooperation in promoting sport
The promotion of sport in the age group of 5 to 20 year olds is one of the core tasks of Baspo. Accordingly, the Federal Office describes the sports promotion program as the most important and most effective lever for this.
J + S has grown continuously since it was founded in 1972. According to Baspo, the program currently covers 85 sports. The Federal Council and Parliament finance J + S with over 100 million francs per year.
In an international comparison, the program also makes the cooperation between different political levels from the federal government through the cantons to the associations, schools, municipalities and other organizations, according to Baspo.
