After the arrival of the YouTube widget on iOS, Google rolled out this new feature on the Android version of its video app.
Definitely, Google never stops updating its video application with interface changes. While YouTube has seen a good part of its design change in recent days on computers – in particular with a description grouped into a block and new pill-shaped buttons – the service now offers a new interface on smartphones as well.
As reported by the site 9to5GoogleYouTube is entitled to a new widget “quick actionson the Android version of its application. This widget will actually integrate several elements accessible from the home screen of your smartphone with a video search bar – and a button to launch a voice search – a button to go directly to the home screen of YouTube, a button dedicated to Shorts, another for the channels to which we subscribe and a last for its library. This widget will therefore provide direct access to the four main tabs of the YouTube application on smartphones.
A second, more classic widget is also available. This is content with the display of the search bar and the voice search button, but has the advantage of being positioned on a single line, against two for the “quick actions“.
A widget that adapts to the colors of your wallpaper
Moreover, Google application requires, the two YouTube widgets are compatible with Monet. Concretely, their color will therefore automatically adapt to the colors of your wallpaper if your smartphone is compatible with Material You and the dynamic color system found from Android 12. widgets feature pill design elements reminiscent of the interface codes of various Google services.
This update to the YouTube app on Android is already deployed and available for download. This is version 17.43.36 of the Android app. The arrival of this widget on Android also follows the deployment of a similar function on iPhone. While YouTube had previously offered no widgets on Android, Google’s video platform launched its first widgets on iOS in mid-October.
