Ys X: Nordics reveals its secondary characters and exploration mechanics

In addition to the colossus Dogi (23 years old) whose superhuman strength will once again not be used here, since the game focuses on the complementarity of the duo formed by Adol and Carja, Ys X: Nordics presents here its first secondary characters. A young man full of energy and sometimes overflowing with enthusiasm, Glen Berge (18) is a member of the Carnack City Self-Defense Force, in addition to being the mayor’s eldest son, a detail he hates to talk about. His friend Cruz Carpent (16) is also the heir of someone important in Carnack, the boss of a certain Carpent Company. His calm and studious temperament does not prevent him from knowing how to take initiatives when necessary. The attraction of the family tavern, 16-year-old Rosalind Lazveli, or Rosa to friends, is a well-behaved young girl who appears to be more mature than her own parents. Which doesn’t prevent him from befriending boys his age, like Glen and Cruz.

A bit of fantasy in exploration

Now that the introductions are done, Falcom gets to the heart of the matter. After the special powers that breathed new life into exploration in Ys IX: Monstrum Nox, it would have been hard to go back to old-school Ys with all-ground travel. Ys X: Nordics therefore introduce the Mana Actionsmechanics comparable to a grappling hook (Mana String) and surfing (Mana Ride). The grappling hook can also be used to tow a platform while the surf runs freely on the water but also on aerial light rails, not to mention the energy currents that can propel the protagonists. These actions will grow in power as Adol and Carja progress through the adventure. ys obliges, this new notion of mana also applies to fights via the Mana Burstattacks charged with fire (for Adol) and ice (for Carja). Ys X: Nordics will be released this year in Japan on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and Switch.
