Ys X: The next episode close to a Souls-like?

And if after 35 years of existence, the future of the license ys was the symbol of a big change for the series? In any case, this is what the president of Falcom seems to make us understand through an interview with the Japanese magazine Famitsu. He reveals to us the first details of the next opus of the adventures of Adol Christin.

A Ys Souls-like: good or bad idea?

On the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the Action RPG series “Ys”, the president of Falcom, Toshihiro Kondo, reveals the first details of the next game in the saga. We are even entitled to a first concept art where we see Adol accompanied by a young woman armed with an ax and a shield. They seem to face some kind of giant demon-bird, but we can see that they are both connected by a bluish link via their wrists and that their attacks form an “X”. We can therefore think of a new feature where we fight with a teammate.

Regarding the other information revealed by Toshihiro Kondo (via Ryokutya2089 and Gematsu), we first learn that this “Ys X” will take up the challenge usually proposed. So we could have a Ys Souls-like even if it should be understood by this that the game will have its own vision of the genre. A lighter Souls-like where it will be necessary to read the movements of the enemies during duels. The president of Falcom insists on the fact that it is vital to add new gameplay elements.

Each ys depicts an adventure from Adol’s diary, this means that the games are not in chronological order and do not follow the same thread (each game has a unique story and characters) even if there are sometimes winks. Thus, with this tenth opus, we should find a younger Adol like in Ys I & II (around 16/17 years old). The scenario could take place in Romun’s Empirea place from which come many of our hero’s enemies.

A youthful Adol will also make it possible to speak to a larger audience knowing that Falcom wants to port the game to as many platforms as possible. None have been announced at this time. The studio also expressed the wish to bring previous games to the latest platforms.

We should have more information in the coming weeks or months. We recall that Ys IX: Monstrum Nox is the latest installment. It is available on PC, PS4, Switch and Stadia.
