Yvonne Woelke: “I would be happy if the jungle asked”

Yvonne Woelke is a candidate in “The Big Celebrity Penance”. In the interview she talks about the affair rumors surrounding her and Peter Klein.

Yvonne Woelke (41) is taking part in the second season of the ProSieben reality show “The Big Celebrity Büssen” with eleven other celebrities (from Thursday, November 9th, 8:15 p.m. on ProSieben and on Joyn). She talks to Olivia Jones (53) about the affair rumors surrounding her and Peter Klein (56). In an interview with the news agency spot on news, Woelke explains how difficult the confrontation was and why she didn’t get along with some of the candidates. She also reveals what relationship she has with Peter Klein today, which TV format she would like to take part in with him and what she wishes for him when he moves into the “Celebrity Big Brother” house.

Why did you want to take part in “The Big Celebrity Penance”?

Yvonne Woelke: I saw the first season and thought: What a great show. I didn’t even think about it. I just wanted to gain my experience in the reality world and of course it was important to me to tell the truth about the story.

You say in a statement that you do not agree that you should have destroyed a marriage. What is your point of view?

Woelke: I didn’t destroy a marriage, she, Iris Klein, did that all by herself. It didn’t have to come to this. If she hadn’t exposed and torn apart her own husband, whom she loved so much, in public after 20 years, perhaps they wouldn’t have been separated.

But maybe there is an evil plan of hers behind it, she will have already thought something about it. She’s not stupid. She didn’t tell the truth about so many things. I’m just telling Mr. T, the apartment and so on – she has to reconcile that with her conscience and not me. Besides, she only gained added value in the whole thing. More followers, more collaborations, more shows, more attention, she might never have come to New York to model, maybe she’ll get her own show soon… You have to look at it positively too.

The candidates are made aware of any wrongdoing and are expected to show remorse. Do you regret anything about your behavior over the past few months?

Woelke: Not yet.

Were you nervous about the interview with Olivia Jones and how did it go?

Woelke: I was really scared before talking to Olivia and in retrospect my fear was justified. She tore me apart like a Christmas goose. At the beginning I was very relaxed, but then my body temperature dropped drastically. At the end I was so cold with excitement. So it wasn’t a nice conversation. I had to justify things that weren’t true. So the conversation didn’t go well. I don’t think we became friends (laughs).

What was the biggest challenge for you on the show?

Woelke: The round of shame was a very big challenge. As a “newbie”, as I was called, I of course also had to prove myself to the old hands who have been in the reality world for a long time. It was difficult for me to get along with some of the candidates. I would have loved to have given my opinion to some of the fake candidates, but I knew that if I said something, I would be thrown out quicker than I thought. So I had to be very reserved with them and keep my mouth shut, which was very difficult for me.

I then let a lot of things out in the individual interviews. All my anger. One participant in particular thought he was a Hollywood star, but he didn’t realize that he had destroyed his own sports career. Others are so calculating that they would even sell their own families. That’s a different world. But once you see through them, you’re on the safe path.

What was the dynamic like in the camp and were there a lot of arguments?

Woelke: At the beginning I had a very difficult time. I watched everyone first because I had no other chance. Almost all of the other candidates knew each other, so they naturally protected each other. At least until the first argument.

I only knew two candidates and they stabbed me in the back. The two would even go to great lengths just to get airtime. Humanity is very important to both of them. With other candidates I just thought: Why are you here? It’s obvious that there’s no champagne and no box spring bed. The whining from some people was really sickening. Next time you should watch the show carefully before you accept. But I also made friends, some of whom I’m still in touch with today.

Since the jungle camp at the beginning of this year, you have been in the headlines almost non-stop. How do you look back on the year, what do you take away from it?

Woelke: I would say it’s working for me.

How did you deal with the haters, who or what helped you?

Woelke: When all the hate came in, I just thought: Oh my God, what is happening to me and my life? My family always had my back. Peter and I have always supported each other. It was all so new and I couldn’t understand how strangers could abuse and insult another stranger like me – they don’t even know me – without getting any punishment. You meddle in a topic and don’t know the truth at all. You may hear the word “cheating”, you may associate it with your own life, you may have been betrayed and then you think you are allowed to say something about it, even though there is no evidence at all.

I think our society is really bad at the moment, people are being convicted even though there is no evidence. They don’t even question it. Everyone pleads for tolerance – but the topic of friendship between men and women, no, there is no such thing. What I found worst was that my mother was very worried. When Ms. Klein published my address, I just thought: Oh, horror. What will become of my existence? She didn’t care, the main thing was that she just destroyed everything. I had to calm my mother down first. But Ms. Klein takes on the role of victim very well.

Have you also considered withdrawing from the public eye completely?

Woelke: At the beginning, yes, but then I spoke to myself. I said to myself: Yvonne, you will never give up, you have eaten so much shit, then you will manage it. Besides, they want to see you on the ground. You’re not a sissy. You are strong. And so get off your ass and move on. I almost went crazy, but I kept going.

Before “Celebrity Penance” you were seen in “Competition in Four Walls” together with Peter Klein. How was filming together?

Woelke: Shooting with Peter was cool, although it was sometimes very annoying that you didn’t have two minutes to yourself. 24/7 was really a challenge. But I have to say, looking back, it was a quick move, Peter and I, we didn’t know each other that long and it could have gone wrong if either of us had turned out to be a psycho. I mean, it was beautiful in Australia, it was like a vacation, the sun was always shining. At ‘Competition within Four Walls’ it was cold, it was raining, there was no bed, it was anything but clean and we had little sleep. We did really well for that.

Now they’re going their separate ways on TV. What do you think about his participation in “Celebrity Big Brother”, how do you think he will do?

Woelke: I don’t hope that we go our separate ways, maybe there are other formats in which we can express ourselves as a team again, such as “My husband can”, maybe you can also use it as “My best friend can compete. Or other shows, there are enough. I would definitely be happy if we could compete in other formats.

I’m incredibly proud that Peter is now moving into “Celebrity Big Brother”. I have to think of something else to give him as a good luck charm. Something very special. I think Peter will do well. He is a pleasant person, very patient, as you can see. And he didn’t fall on his head either. I hope the audience sees what a good person he is and ignores the story and sees him as Peter Klein. He is an independent, loving person who has many positive qualities and is also talented. I want to say to the viewers, give it a chance and please make up your own mind. You’ll see, you’ll like him.

The speculation surrounding them both continues. How do you currently feel about Peter Klein?

Woelke: Peter is my confidant and we are very close to each other.

Are you planning further TV appearances and if so, which format would be suitable for you? What other career plans are you pursuing?

Woelke: Of course I’m planning further TV formats. Of course I would be happy if the jungle asked. But I also know that it is a challenge in my life. Spiders and animals are absolutely not my thing and I’ve driven some fellow actors crazy because I always screamed when I saw a spider. That will be horror for me.

Of course I look forward to offers, no matter what format, series or film. Every performance is a challenge and something special. No one can take away the experience and the beautiful moments from you. As with “The Big Celebrity Penance”. It was a great time with a lot of different people and great moments. It’s a shame I wasn’t allowed to take photos. Of course, I would like to be able to act more as an actress or as a singer again in the future. I would be very happy about a great acting role.
