GfK anticipates significantly higher purchasing power

Despite the pandemic, GfK’s consumer researchers are certain: for the first time since the corona-related drought, purchasing power in Germany is increasing again. As a result, Germans will have noticeably more money in their wallets in the coming year. However, there are clear regional differences.

According to a forecast, Germans will have significantly more in their wallets in the coming year. The consumer researchers at Nuremberg-based GfK expect a nominal increase in purchasing power of 1013 euros per capita to an average of 24,807 euros. That is an increase of 4.3 percent. However, rising prices are not taken into account.

“In 2022, purchasing power will increase significantly for the first time since the beginning of the corona pandemic in Germany,” says GfK expert Filip Vojtech. Growth is based on rising wages and pensions. According to GfK, how much of it is left also depends on the development of consumer prices.

According to GfK, Bavaria will also have the highest purchasing power among the federal states in 2022, at EUR 26,936 per capita. Hamburg, Baden-Württemberg and Hesse also have above-average purchasing power values, all other federal states are below average. Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is again at the bottom with an average of EUR 21,707.

At the district level, too, the front runner comes from Starnberg from Bavaria. With a per capita purchasing power of 34,758 euros, the people of Starnberg have 40 percent more at their disposal than the German average. According to GfK, Gelsenkirchen comes in last with a per capita purchasing power of 19,778 euros.
