1. Victory in 7 years: The Swede Sara Hector cheers in Courchevel in front of the defeated Mikaela Shiffrin.

The podium

  • 1. Sara Hector (SWE) 2: 13.03 minutes
  • 2. Mikaela Shiffrin (USA) +0.35 seconds
  • 3. Marta Bassino (ITA) +0.60 seconds

Sara Hector did better than Mikaela Shiffrin on Wednesday. The Swede beat the American in the 2nd giant slalom in Courchevel by 35 hundredths and swapped it compared to the race the day before the positions with Shiffrin. This means that the American is not on top of the third giant of the season for the first time.

“I’m so surprised too!” Said Hector after her victory. Last and for the first time, the 29-year-old won a World Cup race seven years ago. Now she is in an incorruptible form and was celebrated as the winner.

Marta Bassino was able to celebrate a sense of achievement in third place. After the discipline winner from the previous year failed in both giant slaloms this season, this time she finished two sovereign runs and is back on the podium.

The other Swiss women

Michelle Gisin couldn’t quite build on Tuesday’s performance and third place. After the 1st run she was still in 6th position and was waiting for a podium again. The Engelbergerin said, however, that she was having trouble finding her rhythm. She didn’t succeed optimally in the second round either and so she classified herself as the best Swiss woman in 10th place.

A total of 6 out of 10 Swiss women qualified for the second run, one more athlete than the day before. Without the corona-related absent Lara Gut-Behrami and although an absolute top result was missing this time, the team was convincing. In particular, Camille Rast: The 22-year-old drove strongly again and classified herself as the second-best Swiss in 12th place. “It’s been two good days for me,” she said after the race.

Wendy Holdener was able to improve slightly. The Schwyzerin drove aggressively and made it to position 16, two places ahead than on Tuesday.

Andrea Ellenberger had impressed in the first run and finished 18th with the number 40. In the second round, however, she was unable to match this performance at all and finally classified herself in 25th place. Simone Wild (18th) and Corinne Suter (26th) also lost a few positions in the second run.

So it goes on

The skiers are now saying goodbye to a short Christmas break before the technicians are asked again at the end of the year in Lienz (AUT) in a giant slalom and a slalom (December 28th / 29th).
