A Breton school had to be evacuated this Friday, December 8 due to the start of a fire. Seven children are in absolute emergency due to carbon monoxide poisoning.
The entire commune of Saint-Alban is in suspense. This Friday, December 8, 2023, carbon monoxide poisoning caused the evacuation of Saint-Guillaume primary school of this town located near Lamballe in Côtes-d’Armor. It is therefore not a question of food poisoning (like that feared by the consumption of these recalled milk cartons), but of poisoning due to the start of a fire occurred in a boiler room of the establishment.

The CH of Saint-Brieuc welcomed 13 people from the school, the CHU of Brest took care of 6 and the CHU of Rennes 4. A student’s words testified to the newspaper West France : “We were still scared. And even the grandparents were worried”. The emergency system was lifted and the intervention ended at 4:30 p.m. 55 firefighters, a gendarmerie crew, four helicopters and six Samu teams intervened. They came from Côtes-d’Armor, Ille-et-Vilaine, Manche, Loire-Atlantique and Maine-et-Loire.
The victims are conscious and no vital prognosis is involved. but some are in absolute emergency because of carbon monoxide oversaturation. They had to be treated in a hyperbaric chamber. The dangers of monoxide, recalls Dr Tommaso De Giorgis in West France, is oxygen deprivation. Complications can affect the brain as well as other organs.
