“Tagesschau” presenter Claus-Erich Boetzkes is retiring. Susanne Stichler and Michail Paweletz will take over for him in the future.

New but familiar faces for the afternoon editions of the “Tagesschau”: Susanne Stichler (52) and Michail Paweletz (56) will take over the broadcasts from Claus-Erich Boetzkes (65) from January 2022. He says goodbye to retirement. As before, Susanne Holst (60) will also be on duty in the news broadcasts at 12 p.m., 2 p.m., 3 p.m., 4 p.m. and 5 p.m.

“The world turns particularly fast between 12 noon and 5 pm”

Stichler already has experience with the afternoon programs. She stepped in as a vacation replacement every now and then and knows: “The exciting thing is that between 12 noon and 5 pm the news world often turns particularly fast, a lot is still in flux and we can keep viewers up to date every hour.”

Michail Paweletz has been part of the “Tagesschau” spokesperson team since 2004 and has moderated for example at “tagesschau24” and “Nachtmagazin”. He says about his new appointments: “To moderate the most famous and most important news program in the country is an honor and a task for me, which I look forward to responsibly and with anticipation.”

Farewell to Boetzkes

The first editor-in-chief of ARD-Aktuell, Marcus Bornheim, said goodbye to the previous presenter Boetzkes with the words: “He took the audience by the hand and led them through the ups and downs of a news day. Without hectic, calm and always We will miss him. We wish him the very best in his future life. “
