The Minister of Overseas came back, Saturday, May 21 on France Inter, on her appointment to the government, her career, but also the tasks she will have to accomplish once the reserve period is over.
Yaël Braun-Pivet, former President of the Law Commission of the National Assembly, newly appointed Minister for Overseas France, detailed her arrival in the government on France Inter: “Elisabeth Borne and the President of the Republic wanted to entrust me with this mission of Overseas. She added that “it’s dizzying, but [que] it is commitment to others and politics; we know that we take on heavy responsibilities and that it is 24 hours a day to do the best and do well. The minister also spoke about her background: “I come from Jewish, Polish and German immigration. My grandfather could neither read nor write and loved France more than anything, so he must be very proud. There is this republican course that touches me. »
On the subject of Emmanuel Macron and his reshuffle, Yaël Braun-Pivet declared that “the president wanted the citizens to engage again and that is what I managed to carry and that we embody. “For her, this appointment makes sense:” I measure this situation because for five years, I went to all the Overseas territories, to show how important they are. We were able to measure the complexity and uniqueness of each of the territories. I measure the complexity of the task. »
“We have shown that sovereign positions could be occupied by women,” she said.
She also paid tribute to the president’s slogan “with you”: “By being close to these territories, to the citizens, to the people. The “with you” method, more than ever, must be implemented over the next five years. There will be more listening, closer and that’s what I will do in these territories. »
If she is currently campaigning for the legislative elections in the 5th district of Yvelines, she claimed to be “in the process of organizing [s]first move. The reserve period begins on Monday and I will continue my legislative campaign in the Yvelines. Yaël Braun-Pivet then said that “the overseas portfolio is the most beautiful portfolio there is. »
What about the “high positions” of the government, reserved “for men”? “High positions also remain female. When we achieved parity in the National Assembly, we showed that sovereign positions could be occupied by women. We are leading by example and I invite all political parties to do the same. »
