For a long time I thought that if I wanted to live more sustainably, it was either all or nothing. But that was actually just getting in my own way. If you want to live plastic-free, for example, you don’t have to do it 100% perfectly from one day to the next. That became clear to me at some point. It is enough to start with small steps and gradually reduce plastic waste. True to the motto “Every little helps”. That’s why I’m giving you a few tips here with which you can start your plastic-free life today.

Living plastic-free in the bathroom

Cosmetics without plastic

It was particularly easy for me to do without plastic in the bathroom. There are just so many ways to buy cosmetics without plastic packaging – and generally ban single-use products from the beauty routine. Also solid bars of soap have long been an integral part of plastic-free personal hygiene – and that’s why it’s hard to imagine my bathroom without them. It is available both as a body soap and as a body butter for creaming. The body butter is especially good for my dry skin. Also solid shampoo and conditioner I have now discovered for myself. I was skeptical here for a long time because I was afraid they wouldn’t lather so well and make the hair look dull, but that solid shampoo from Alverde conjures up an excellent foam and smells wonderful at the same time.

Plastic-free living without single-use products

In the meantime, I have also declared war on single-use products – not only made of plastic – step by step. Instead of tampons, I swear by mine menstrual cup and thus avoid mountains of waste month after month. I grab it to remove my makeup washable cotton padsthat I can use over and over again.

And even when it comes to shaving, I’ve now switched to plastic-free products, even though that was particularly difficult for me. However, the plane requires a bit of courage and a certain amount of skill at first, but at the same time it rewards me with the good feeling of having made my contribution to environmental protection.

Plastic-free living in the kitchen

In the kitchen, I found it much more difficult to find plastic-free and environmentally friendly alternatives. Of course, reusable cans are ideal for leftovers and for storing food. So you can completely do without aluminum and cling film – even if you don’t have any money in one beeswax cloth want to invest. In general, it makes no sense to replace old products with new ones before they have exceeded their useful life.

That too is something I learned during the transition process. BPA-free cans and cans can therefore serve me well for a few more years – and will only be replaced by plastic-free alternatives when they are really no longer usable.
