Domestic violence has increased since the start of confinement. Thus, the Women for Women France association collaborates with stars to inform foreign women about their rights and the measures put in place.

Many associations feared that confinement would lead to an increase in domestic violence. Unfortunately, their fears were confirmed as the police recorded a 36% increase in reports in the Paris region and 32% in the other regions from the first week. Several devices were then put in place, in particular in pharmacies which became relay points for victims in order to raise the alarm.

The association Women for Women France has decided to take action to inform foreign women living in France. On April 8, a new campaign has been launched to warn them of the dangers of domestic violence and the mechanisms put in place to help them. On social networks, the association then shared several messages in several languages such as German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Arabic and even Thai. Furthermore, Women for Women France partners with several personalities in order to produce videos where they are aimed at foreign women in their native language.

"This information campaign responds to an emergency: the increase in domestic violence since the establishment of containment on March 17. ", explains the association. "Jane Birkin, actress and singer of British origin, produced a video in English to support and inform foreign women living in France of the means available to them to get help if they suffer domestic violence during the In this surge of solidarity, she was quickly joined by Ariane Ascaride (in Italian) and by other personalities who make their notoriety and their hearts available to reach the thousands of women of foreign origin living in France."continues Women for Women France in a press release.

According to Sarah McGrath, the founder of the association, foreign women face more difficulties such as the geographic distance from their family or the language barrier. They are also "more exposed to economic and administrative dependence on their partner, especially when their residence permit is conditioned by the existence of a common life. "

While women are the first victims of precariousness in times of crisis, poverty and inequality affect foreign women even more. The latter do not always know their individual rights, "family law" and all the devices put in place to help them. So it often silences them.
