Last May, DJI launched its latest high-end drone, the DJI Mini 3 Pro. A particularly compact drone weighing 249 grams, but offering resolutely high-end functions, in particular thanks to its 48 megapixel photo and video sensor in 1/1.3 inch format and the focal aperture of f/1.7 .

Only, with a price of 739 euros, the DJI Mini 3 Pro was not for all budgets. In order to offer a more accessible version, DJI unveiled this Friday a new drone model based on the Mini 3 Pro, the DJI Mini 3.

As on the Pro version, the DJI Mini 3 is characterized above all by its compactness with a weight of 249 grams and dimensions of 148 x 90 x 62 mm when folded. DJI has not sacrificed image performance since the DJI Mini 3 takes advantage of the same camera as the Mini 3 Pro model. Thus, it has a 1 / 1.3 inch CMOS sensor with 48 megapixels and a wide-angle lens opening at f / 1.7 equivalent to 24 mm.

What allow the capture of shots in 12 megapixels thanks to pixel binning – the grouping of four photosites to form a single pixel. However, the drone’s video capabilities are slightly behind, since the DJI Mini 3 is limited to a bit rate of 30p in 4K against 60p for the Pro model.

More limited shooting functions

The DJI Mini 3 incorporates a DJI O2 transmission system limited to 12 km, compared to 10 km with the O3 transmission for the Mini 3 Pro. The same goes for the built-in shooting functions, since the DJI Mini 3 is limited to QuickShots (Dronie, Rocket, Circle, Spiral and Boomerang) and Panorama mode. For its part, the Pro version also offers a Timelapse mode and MasterShots shots, as on the DJI Air 2S.

However, the announced autonomy is slightly longer, from 38 to 51 minutes on the more accessible model – the Mini 3 Pro offered between 34 and 47 minutes of flight.

The DJI Mini 3 is available this Friday. As often with the Chinese manufacturer, several offers are available. The drone is offered alone at a price of 489 euros, with a DJI RC-N1 remote control at 579 euros or with a DJI RC remote control at 749 euros. These three offers will, however, be offered at the beginning of next year.

Until then, however, it is possible to acquire the Mini 3 in a Fly More pack, with an RC-N1 remote control, a shoulder bag, a two-way charging station and two additional batteries for 768 euros. Another pack is available, with the DJI RC remote control in addition to other accessories, at 938 euros.
