a new range of AI-oriented processors with great promise

AMD is launching a new line of processors against Intel. The firm promises performance, but also and above all longevity.

AMD continues to roll out its AMD Zen 4 architecture with new solutions. The latest is interesting in more ways than one. The new AMD Ryzen Pro 7000 processors are coming to laptops and desktops.

AMD Ryzen AI is coming

The new range is still based on Zen 4 with 4 nm engraving and the integration of an AMD RDNA 3 graphics circuit. In raw performance, AMD believes it can do better than the Apple M2 Pro or the Intel Core i9- 13900H. The big news is to be found in a 3rd calculation unit present on the chip for the first time: AMD Ryzen AI.

The big trend is artificial intelligence, so AMD is jumping into this wagon with both feet. The firm highlights uses through Windows 11 such as the possibility of blurring the background of its camera in an online meeting application, or performing dynamic framing.

She sees beyond the ability to use her in-house processor for generative AI applications. Research is already underway to try to create a ChatGPT capable of running locally.

The partnership with Microsoft goes further since the AMD Ryzen Pro chips integrate Microsoft Pluto technology. This solution is very much put forward by the Redmond firm to secure the hardware platform of a PC as much as possible. The firm has partly reused its work on Xbox consoles which are still very resistant to pirates.

And great promises for desktop PCs

The AMD Ryzen Pro range is also available with Ryzen Pro 7000 chips on desktop PCs. Here, the promise mainly concerns the longevity of the platform.

Indeed, this new range of processors still works on the AM5 socket launched in 2022, and AMD is taking the opportunity to promise support until 2025, at a minimum. Let’s hope that the firm will be able to go even further, the AM4 socket had the right to 6 years of support.
