add a corgi to your home screen

Before unveiling its Xiaomi 13, the Chinese giant presented its new interface, MIUI 14. It offers a serious performance boost as well as some interesting new features for the home screen.

In addition to its Xiaomi 13 and 13 Pro as well as a host of products including the Xiaomi mini PC, the Beijing giant also presented its new interface, MIUI 14. Generally, the brand tends to offer updates to its smartphones under an old version of Android before bringing it to the new one. We can therefore expect two versions of MIUI 14 to coexist, one running Android 12 and the other running Android 13.

The main novelty to note is on the weight side. Where the interfaces tend to become heavier, MIUI 14 goes to 13.09 GB against 16.9 GB for MIUI 13. According to the brand, loading times would gain a lot, even exceeding iOS for certain uses. It will of course be necessary to verify this during our tests.

Widgets and cutes

Beyond that, the brand still displays some new features. MIUI 14, for example, includes a new version of the functionality to extract text from an image. The widgets will also improve as well as the personalization of the home screen. We should thus be able to enlarge an application icon so that it turns into a miniature widget. Enough to carve out your home screen for your use and let’s face it, it’s envy.

What would marketing be without using cuteness to sell you stuff? Xiaomi has understood this and offers you to add a cactus, a cat or a dog to your home screen. What is it for you tell us? It’s a little early to tell, but from what we’ve seen, these virtual companions are animated and should adapt to the time of day. The cat should sleep as the sun goes down or the cactus should close its flowers.

For lovers of home automation, you must already know how nice MIUI is from this point of view, thanks to its control center that allows you to manage everything in one place. The latter has been revamped for the occasion. It should also make it easier to switch between devices with wireless headphones.

Xiaomi has also improved its child mode for tablets and smartphones. Adults will be able to more easily disable an entire group of apps, but we don’t yet know exactly how this will work.

Smartphones compatible with MIUI 14

The first smartphones compatible with MIUI 14 have also been unveiled. Unsurprisingly, these are the latest flagships of the brand. The only models available in France are the Xiaomi 12 Pro and Xiaomi 12. Too bad the recent Xiaomi 12T are not part of the trip, but their turn will surely come. MIUI 14 is scheduled for the very beginning of the year 2023.
