The AppleTV+ platform has ordered a “Godzilla” series, the plot of which will follow the action of the movie “Godzilla vs. Kong”.
The King of the Monsters in his very first live-action television series! Our colleagues from Deadline indeed announce the signing of a “massive contract” between the AppleTV + platform and the company Legendary Pictures, holder of the rights to the Godzilla license and the MonsterVerse.
Thus, a series will soon see the light of day, in the continuity of the film Godzilla vs Kong (released with us directly on VOD due to the closure of theaters). New protagonists will be introduced on this occasion, since the story of the program will revolve around the adventures of a family of explorers opposed to a mysterious organization called “Monarch”.
Everything suggests that this Godzilla series could precede other expansions of the extended universe of the MonsterVerse; series centered on King Kong, Gamera and other Kaijū could also see the light of day on AppleTV+ as part of this contract, the amount of which has not been disclosed by Deadline.
Although this is the first television adaptation in live action, note that several animated series have nevertheless emerged, including the very nice Godzilla: the series, taken from the (much less successful) feature film by Roland Emmerich, or more recently GODZILLA: Origin of the Invasion on Netflix.
