After-sales service: the price of spare parts can vary from simple to double depending on the brand

The price of spare parts, taken into account in the calculation of therepairability index, is part of the latest Fnac Darty after-sales service barometer. And the results are amazing.

Fnac Darty published, on Tuesday, its fifth “After-sales service barometer”, which has become a reference tool for knowing both the repairability and the reliability of many products from the IT, urban mobility, household appliances, photography, telephony and more, thanks to their sustainability score. This year and for the first time, the barometer takes into account the price of spare parts, which tends to make a big difference depending on the brand.

Prices that can range from simple to triple for spare parts

In the thinking of the consumer (and the repairer), the price of spare parts is fundamental, in that it plays directly on the incentive to have his device repaired or not. And in a context where inflation is high, it is all the more so.

By discovering the barometer, we realize in particular that the price of a spare part weighs for 7 to 8% of the total price of the product on average. Fnac Darty noted significant differences from one brand to another, and from one product category to another.

Imagine for example that in the category of porthole washing machines, the price of spare parts represents between 8 to 10% of the total purchase price of the device depending on the manufacturer. Fnac Darty explains to us that the phenomenon is even stronger if we switch to the TV category. There, the price of the spare part weighs for 25 to 57% of the price of the machine. And it’s even worse among smartphone manufacturers, where the price of spare parts has tripled in just one year.

In terms of availability, spare parts are also progressing

If there is still a lot to do on the price of spare parts, their availability continues to progress. Fnac Darty quantifies this progress at an additional seven months, with Apple increasing the availability of its parts from five to seven years for its iPhones. As for coffee machines, those of the Krups brand are available for 15 years. Previously it was 10 years. And there are plenty of examples of this.

Another notable data to extract from the barometer: the reliability of the products analyzed, the categories of which are mostly on the rise, increasing by seven points over one year. An increase in reliability results in a decrease in breakdowns, and therefore in the long term an increase in the life of the devices.

Products stamped Electrolux, for example, have gained 11 reliability points in the porthole washing machine category. Over the same period, Miele recorded a gain of 15 points. Smartphones have also made progress on reliability. Mobiles Huawei (+25 points), Honor (+20 points), Apple (+10 points), Samsung (+18 points) and oppo (+11 points) experienced a real improvement at this level.
