Guitar maker Gibson raises money for Ukraine at auction. An instrument played by Paul McCartney fetched the highest price.

Legendary musicians help Ukraine. Four limited-edition Gibson guitars decorated in the national colors of Ukraine were sold at an auction in New York yesterday, Saturday. An instrument played by ex-Beatle Paul McCartney (80) during this year’s summer tour achieved the highest price of 76,800 US dollars.

“I’m glad to auction this beautiful guitar of mine to do something good for the excellent people of Ukraine”, McCartney explained to the auction house Julien’s. The 80-year-old hopes the proceeds will help the Ukrainian people “through this aggressive Russian invasion.”

Slash guitar fetches $31,000 at auction

Another guitar played by Guns N’ Roses legend Slash (57) in Prague on June 18, 2022, went to the lucky buyer for $31,250. A third instrument, signed by Rolling Stones members Keith Richards (78) and Ronnie Wood (75) and Queen guitarist Brian May (75), brought in $28,800.

According to the Gibson Guitars For Peace Ukraine Relief 100 percent of the proceeds from the auction go to humanitarian aid for the people of Ukraine. Reconstruction projects after the end of the conflict are also to be supported. Also offered is a Guitars For Peace t-shirt. Proceeds from the sale of the garment will benefit musicians and music programs in Ukraine.
