A month after a forest fire in La Brigue, a new fire broke out on Sunday evening in the Alpes-Maritimes, in Rimplas, burning one hectare in total. The firefighters were alerted around 5:30 p.m. to flames at the level of the Serre road. The fire rushed into herbaceous shrub strata and on an upward slope, in the hinterland of Nice, making access difficult for rescuers.

The fire spread with a free and rapid progression. The firefighters were able to contain it by the right flank to then attenuate the head of the flames. Ten firefighters remained mobilized throughout the night.

“A few hot spots”

Twenty people are still on site Monday morning to completely extinguish the last sparks. These are ten firefighters and ten agents from Force 06 (Operational Force Risks Disasters Environment of the Alpes-Maritimes). No aerial means were finally engaged despite a request to do so on Sunday evening. The firefighters were able to fight on the ground to control the progression.

The reconnaissance carried out gives hope that the extinction is “very well on the way”underlines the SDIS of the Alpes-Maritimes which specifies that there are still “a few hot spots”. The reason for the outbreak of the fire remains unknown. It could again be the phenomenon of “winter fires”, just as devastating as those of summer even if less impressive. And there too, the current lack of water would not be there for nothing.
