Anne Hathaway makes surprising statements: She consciously decided to live a life without alcohol and for a very specific reason.

In Hollywood, stars are increasingly admitting how they struggle with alcohol. Also Anne Hathaway, 41, knows this problem and now publicly states that she has been sober for five years.

For Anne Hathaway, this “milestone” is more important than her birthday

Instead of putting a lot of focus on her birthday, Anne Hathaway finds a “milestone” in her life much more important: her abstinence. In an interview with The New York Times, she explains: “I don’t usually talk about it, but I’ve been sober for over five years. This feels like a milestone for me.” Back in March, she explained that the decision felt “violent” for her. Probably because drinking alcohol seems “normal” in society. However, she would not condemn people consuming alcoholic beverages, as she told Vanity Fair. After all, it is a path that “everyone has to take for themselves.” But there is a much bigger reason why she decided against alcohol.

She stopped for her son

When she visited “The Ellen Degeneres Show” in 2019, the actress reported on her decision. “I’m going to stop drinking as long as my son lives in my house. I don’t necessarily like the way I drink, and he’s getting to the age where he really needs me all the time in the morning.” Clear words that provide a deep insight and put your milestone in a different light. She remembers: “I was hungover and that was enough for me. I didn’t love it.” She describes a situation in which she brought her son to school – of course she wasn’t behind the wheel herself, but it still opened her eyes.

The 41-year-old and her husband Adam Shulman, 43, have two sons – Jonathan, 8, and Jack, 4. Abstinence is particularly important to her and her family’s well-being and so she seems to be doing much better.
