Despite the recovery in sales, the car dealer is not satisfied with its results last year, according to a communiqué on Friday. A year ago, it was hoped that there would be a noticeable recovery in 2021 compared to 2020. But that was not the case.
The corona virus continued to occupy the world and shaped world trade. As far as the auto industry is concerned, the chip crisis hit this sector even more. According to AMAG, the Swiss car market has only marginally increased with 238,481 newly registered passenger cars compared to 2020 (236,827 units). It is thus still well below a normal car year with an average of 300,000 units.
Amag was not able to escape this market dynamic either. However, the car dealer is satisfied with the market share of 31.2 percent. The Audi, Seat and Skoda brands were popular with customers. Amag CEO Helmut Ruhl was quoted as saying: “The workshops were well utilized in 2021 and the entire dealer organization also succeeded in increasing the market share of our brands.”
Looking ahead, Amag’s management is focusing on the topic of new technologies. Amag Services is therefore launching a new offer for those interested in electric cars in 2022. Anyone who rents an electric car from the Amag subsidiary Europcar on a long-term basis gets the right to drive a combustion engine for three days per rental month. Cumulatively, you could then drive a combustion engine during the summer holidays.
