If NVIDIA already seems to be considering the release of its new generation of graphics cards for the fall of 2022, AMD’s schedule is still quite vague. It is therefore not surprising to see it focus on the current generation: RDNA 2 has not said its last word.
A release on April 20, 2022
About ten days ago, we received confirmation that AMD was preparing to “rejuvenate” its range of graphics cards. In the jargon, this is called a refresh which makes it possible to offer new cards that are more likely to fill certain gaps in the catalog.
Today, WCCFTech confirm that this refresh will concern at least three new graphics cards, the Radeon RX 6950 XT, Radeon RX 6750 XT and Radeon RX 6650 XT. More importantly, we have a date that seems firm for the launch of these new products: AMD is therefore counting on April 20th.
Our colleagues’ informant, the inevitable Greymon55, specifies that the most powerful of these new cards, the RX 6950 XT, will sport a new reference design ” midnight black which actually seems quite close to that of the RX 6800 XT. The other cards don’t seem affected.
Towards an adjustment of frequencies?
On the characteristics side, there will of course be no question of revolutionizing the RDNA 2 that we now know very well. For the very high end, AMD seems to be slightly upgrading the GPU to a Navi 21 XTXH which keeps the same number of stream processors and will be supported by the same memory: the frequencies will no doubt be adjusted.
If the question of the GPU of the Radeon RX 6750 XT and RX 6650 XT has no clear answer for the moment, the main novelty of these cards lies in the adoption of video memory at 18 Gbps while the interface remains at 192 -bit for the first and 128-bit for the second, as on the Radeon RX 6700 XT and RX 6600 XT models.
Could it be that AMD is taking advantage of this refresh to switch to an engraving fineness of 6 nm? Our colleagues from WCCFTech believe that it would be a good decision on the part of AMD, but nothing is less certain. The answer in just over a month now.
